TinyList features
- Optional PER LIST prefaces to messages through a list.
- Optional per list RANDOM prefaces, new to V:1.6.0, so you could place your advertisements at the BEGINNING of a letter, if you really like annoying your readers.
- Per list custom footer, OR none (bad idea), OR an intelligent built in default footer. BTW, the intelligent footer composes a link RIGHT TO YOUR MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT PAGE for that list. This is pretty tough to improve upon.
- Service wide (global) footer IF you want one- does not conflict with any other feature.
- Per list RANDOM footers- pithy sayings, fortunes, BANNER or TEXT, whatever.
- Service wide RANDOM footers- same sort of thing, appears on every list you host. Does not conflict with having per list random footers.
- CUSTOM or default welcome or farewell messages on per list basis, customize to your taste.
- With some reluctance, we now support a banishment feature, the per list persona non grata file. Place someone on it, and they cannot post- and in the next edition, they will not be able to subscribe to the list either.
- SECRET/unadvertised lists are very easy- just do not create a (listname).info file!
- Web management of list membership- easy to link to this on a web page, DEFAULT built in footers do this for you with correct address provided by script.
- Archiving of list traffic enabled on per list basis with one simple file being created- the archive file itself. Thereafter all messages are appended to this file.
- With Version 1.6.0, an intelligent menu showing the installed featurees offered- and NOT showing links to those you choose NOT to install. CLICK here to take a look at it.
- Web menuing of archives available to the public.
- Web reading of archived list traffic, accessed via that menu.
- Web review for list owners of membership, with password protection to preserve privacy.
- With 1.6.0, web creation and deletion of lists, with password protection. Now anyone can create a list on the web, and you can offer your own miniature public list service if you wish to do so.
THIS FEATURE TAKES SOME PRETTY SERIOUS OPERATING SYSTEM SPECIFIC SORCERY
and you might not care to install it on your server. Devloping this is giving the author hairballs and a nervous twitch.
- Error reporting and recovery; if TL cannot transmit to a particular address, it reports it to the postmaster and moves on to the next recipient.
- Mail loop breaking header and it's detection; makes it resistant to having 2 lists talk to each other, helps to avoid autoreply wars.
- X-header provided to facilitate filtering baised on list name without bothering with the subject.
- 'Training wheels'- intelligent defaults built in. A Minimal install provides customized footers on the fly, a simplistic but serviceable welcome and farewell message pair, and more- TL is designed to be easy for the newbie, powerful for the savvy.
- Automated installation makes installation quick and easy for you, just run the installer script and answer 3 questions. This also creates your first list, 'testlist', so you can try it and see that it is operating.
- Easy to create new lists- only one alias, and only one file at the minimum, the subscriber file.
- NO INSECURE TRANSMISSION ALIASES!
- Easy to add custom features, most feature turned on and/or defined by the creation of simple files with your text editor. (make sure they are chmod 666, ok?)
- It is EASY to modify the actual scripts, They are all HEAVILY commented.
You can have fun, make fun, BE fun for others. Best reason I know, and probably the ultimate purpose for all life and existance itself. If that's not good enough, I'm clueless. Hail ERIS.
